Telephone Counseling/Coaching
Telephone Counseling/Coaching is the process of exploring
deep hurts, pains and problems with a trained professional Counselor by
telephone. The fees are generally lower than in-office counseling because
of the loss of visual contact between the Counselor and the Caller. All
rules of confidentiality still apply in this setting. Remember:
hard wired phone lines are the most private.

Telephone Group Counseling
Telephone Group Counseling is the process of exploring
deep hurts, pains and problems with a group of other Callers who are dealing
with similar issues, while a trained professional Counselor leads the group by
telephone. This is done using teleconferencing technology, and is
private as long as no one who is not a part of the group dials in.
Because of this eventuality, privacy rules are required for participants of a Telephone
Group Counseling session. Click on this button to view rules

Support Groups/Self-Lead Support Groups
Support Groups are groups where there is no
professionally trained counselor present as Group Leader. The Group
Leader is an non-professional counselor/participant who manages the
group and participates in the discussion as a peer to the other
participants. The Leader is someone who has successfully found a degree
of victory over a life struggle which the participants of the group are still
working to overcome. This type of group is for mutual burden bearing,
accountability, encouragement and spiritual support. This is done using
teleconferencing technology, and is private as long as no one who is not a
part of the group dials in. Because of this eventuality privacy rules
are required for participants of a Telephone Group Counseling session.

Group Rules . There are no required fees for these groups, however we
request that you consider a donation for the cost of the teleconferencing line
and our reimbursement to the Group Leader for their long distance cost
incurred in coordinating the group. We suggest a donation of either
$25.00 per year or a minimum of $2.50 per hour to cover our cost. This,
however, is not required for this group type. Remember: Hard
wired phone lines are the most private.

Since the teleconference lines
use no operator or passwords, there may be an occasional
"stranger" dialing into the call by mistake. This is
rare, but if it occurs, politely inform the caller they have
called into a private teleconference and to please hang up. If the
Problem persists, have all callers hang up and call back one minute
later. If the problem continues Customer can call Sponsor's
office toll-free 877-238-6664, Sponsor will assist in reassignment
to a different teleconferencing line.
General Etiquette
for using teleconference lines
- Since more than one person must be calling in at one time
for the line to connect, the leader of the group should have either
a cell phone or second line available so that if one of the group is
slightly late (you know, their watch battery is low, the dog
swallowed the clock, etc, etc,) then they can call the group leader
on a different line and the group leader can call in from the other
line, then hang up once the late person is connected.
- Land line (with cords attached to the hand-set) phones are the
best to use for clarity: the Group Leader should use this type for
best performance. Cell phones and cordless phones should be
avoided due to static, echo and other bothersome audio quirks,
however, these are OK for listeners if they have a mute button and
only de-mute when they need to speak. Always mute your
phone when you expect a noise to be a distraction to the other
participants (don't forget heavy breathing or scratchy beard against
receiver of phone). Leaders Should Monitor this noise level and
alert participants.
- If you're planning to leave the conference early, mute your phone
and hang up gentlly. If your leader requires it, excuse
your-self.
- If you're a great participator (you're not shy and you like to ask
questions) count to 3 before jumping in after a lull in the
speaker's cadence to give the more shy types a chance to speak-up.
- If you're a leader of a group, leave time for questions at the end
and ask if there are questions after each major point. Count
to at least 10 before speaking after asking for questions.
This will give those, who are not linguistically gifted, time to
formulate ideas
