FAQs

Frequently  Asked
Questions

Q.  What is the difference between Christian Counseling/Psychotherapy and Secular counseling/psychotherapy?

A.  Though Our Christian Counselors/Psychotherapist are trained the same way that Secular Counselors are trained in the sciences of psychology, sociology and Counseling theory; ours believe that a person cannot experience harmony in life if they are not in relationship with God, through Jesus Christ. However, our counselors do not, trick or force people to believe a certain way.  But they do try to guide them toward God and they usually pray with each client, if the client agrees, at some point during each counseling session.

Q.  Can a counselor read my mind?

A.  No.  Though if they are well trained and have a lot of experience, it may seem like it.  Counselors pick up body movements, eye rolls, nervous twitches and voice inflections.  They are trained to do this and some counselors who are specifically anointed by God to Counsel have even deeper insights into a client's needs;  but they cannot read one's mind.

Q.  Can a counselor hypnotize me into doing something that I don't want to do

A.  Some therapist are trained to hypnotize, but ethically a therapist is restrained from using hypnosis to cause a person to behave in a way in which they have not given the therapist permission.  However, Christian Counselors, usually don't believe that the use of hypnosis is ethical as a practice.  Also, No One can be hypnotized against their will.

Q. I see the terms "Counselor," "Psychotherapist," and "Therapist" used several times.  Is there a difference between the three terms?

A.  Usually, No.  These terms are relatively interchangeable.  However, a person can be a "Counselor" without having a degree or training.  Many unscrupulous "therapist" charge for services which they may not be trained to actually provide. Always ask for Counselor, Psychotherapist, or Therapist who is Nationally or State Licensed and you have every right to be shown proof of their training or licensure.
